MATCH-UP Interfaith Volunteers Recognition Day

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts

A Proclamation

By His Excellency

GOVERNOR ARGEO PAUL CELLUCCI 1999

WHEREAS: The Match-Up Interfaith Volunteers Program is a pioneer in understanding the importance of social contact in maintaining the physical and mental health of elders and disabled; and

WHEREAS: The agency has supported the dignity and independence of elders and the disabled throughout the Boston area for fifteen years and

WHEREAS; The Match-Up Interfaith Volunteers provide vital services, such as friendly visits, grocery shopping, light housekeeping and transportation to medical appointments to more than eight-hundred elders and disabled adults each year; and

WHEREAS; The volunteers give selflessly of their time and enhance the lives of elders and the disabled in our communities; and

WHEREAS; Janet Seckel-Cerrotti, as Executive Director of Match-Up Interfaith Volunteers, has guided the organization in its mission of compassion and caregiving throughout the organization's fifteen years; and

WHEREAS; The Match-Up Interfaith Volunteers exemplify the essence of the volunteer spirit and deserve our gratitude and our respect;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARGEO PAUL CELLUCCI, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim November 21st, 1999, to be

MATCH-UP INTERFAITH VOLUNTEERS RECOGNITION DAY

and urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this twelfth day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and twenty-fourth.
