MATCH-UP Services
MATCH-UP Interfaith Volunteers provides three categories
of services to elderly and disabled adults in Boston and Brookline:
- Visiting (Friendly Visiting, PetPals, Strong for Life)
- Medical Escort and Short-term Assistance
- Educational Programs (What's Up Doc? Workshop)
Visiting
Services
MATCH-UP volunteers visit regularly with seniors who are in need of
companionship and long-term support. These visits can range from a
conversation or a pleasant walk together to a visit with a pet or help
with a
fitness program. Lasting, deep-rooted friendships often develop from
these visits, rewarding to both senior and volunteer.
Friendly Visiting
MATCH-UP volunteers
visit
isolated, lonely elders in their homes and assist with simple
household tasks, errands, or shopping. Volunteers and
their matches
develop
strong
and lasting friendships, rewarding to both. Read

Pet Pals
PetPals, developed in collaboration with the Animal
Rescue League of Boston, sends volunteers and their dogs to visit elderly
and disabled adults living in long-term care facilities. Read

Strong for Life
Strong for Life brings together specially trained
volunteers and disabled and non-disabled older adults to perform a 30-minute
exercise routine once a week. Read

Medical Escort and Short-term
Assistance
Whereas our visiting programs are geared more toward long-term support
and relationships, the medical escort and short-term assistance programs
are task-oriented services with limited time frames and specific starting
and stopping points.
Medical Escort
MATCH-UP volunteer
medical escorts accompany elders and disabled adults to and from medical
appointments, providing emotional
and physical support along the way. Read

One-time and Short-term Assistance
MATCH-UP volunteers provide
help to elders or disabled adults with one-time, non-medical tasks that
may take a few hours or up to several days. Read

Educational Programs
MATCH-UP educational programs help seniors and their caregivers more effectively
navigate a health care system which can often be intimidating and confusing.
What's Up Doc? Workshop
What's Up Doc? is a healthcare communication workshop
which teaches seniors how to get the most out of their visits to
health care providers. Read

People who do not have support from family or friends may call MATCH-UP
for free assistance. Anyone can call MATCH-UP to refer a person;
often a clergy member, social worker, or other concerned person contacts
us on their behalf. To request one of our services, please call us
at 617-482-1510.
